How We Make Our Belgian Chocolate Slabs in Oxford

Every slab we make at Hai Chocolate starts with the same question: what would we actually want to eat? Not what is cheapest to produce, or easiest to scale — but what would genuinely excite us if someone handed it to us as a gift. That question drives everything we do in our Oxford kitchen.

It Starts with Belgian Chocolate

We use premium Belgian milk chocolate as the base for almost all of our slabs. Belgian chocolate has a higher cocoa butter content than standard compound chocolate, which gives it a smoother melt, a cleaner snap and a richer flavour. It is noticeably different — and once you have tasted it, it is hard to go back.

Small Batches, Every Time

We do not make our slabs weeks in advance and store them in a warehouse. Each slab is made in small batches to order. That means when your slab arrives, it is genuinely fresh — not a product that has been sitting on a shelf since last month.

The Toppings Make the Slab

This is where the fun begins. We source real, recognisable toppings — Ferrero Rocher, Maltesers, KitKat, Kinder Happy Hippos, Toblerone — and press them into the chocolate while it is still setting. Every slab is different, and every bite delivers something interesting.

Some of our flavoured slabs (mint, cappuccino, orange) are infused directly into the chocolate base rather than added on top — which gives a more integrated, refined flavour throughout.
